ACC Flooring were asked to carry out installations across several areas by a long-standing customer to be completed during shutdown, the week between Christmas and New Years Day, ready for the business to reopen immediately in the new year. These works were necessary for both health and safety precautions and essential remedial work in production areas.

The existing concrete substrate was mechanically prepared using enclosed diamond grinding equipment before beginning the installation process. A polyurethane concrete floor patching kit was applied to areas requiring making good. This product offers excellent physical properties to both concrete and polymer modified cementitious screeds, and enables the substrate to have protection against impact and abrasion resistance. All walkways were installed with a high build epoxy coating in Green with a Chelford aggregate scatter between coats to provide a slip resistant profile. The walkways were completed with the application of Safety Yellow coloured lines either side. To improve safety measures in the workplace, we also added floor logos to highlight danger zones in forklift traffic areas. Other demarcation included Black and White zebra crossings for pedestrian use to enhance the health and safety requirements on site.

Also installed was an enhanced anti-slip external walk way fit for every weather type, created with a heavy-duty Grip system which is fully bound with aggregate, left to cure prior to the Black and White epoxy demarcation application to create a zebra crossing. To highlight forklift zones, we applied a Dark Grey high build epoxy coating on top of the previous coating which had begun to wear from the heavy vehicle traffic.

To complete the installation, we applied a heavy duty polyurethane screed @ 6mm in Buff which provided excellent durability, slip and chemical resistance to the flooring. A chemical resistant coating was applied to the bund walls in 3 coats, a system trusted for both internal and external locations, vertical and horizontal surfaces which offer abrasion and chemical resistance, adhesion and weatherproofing.

The installation was completed within the timeframe, and was finished to the clients’ standard, ready to open on the set date with no extra downtime.
